Joseph the Seer, for me did an excellent job as the author explains to build a bridge "designed to help the reader safely across the divide between simplified literature on Joseph Smith and scholarly literature that can be frustrating to read." I was uplifted and enlightened as I read, finding myself unable to put the book down.
One thing of specific worth to me was the description of the four year period where Joseph met with the Angel Moroni prior to receiving the Gold Plates. The description of how Satan tempted Joseph on his journeys to the Hill, I found to be insightful patterns that I then recognized in my own life. Allowing me to better understand how the Devil works.
Giving me greater strength in overcoming him, and more fully submitting myself to the Holy Ghosts sanctifying power. This book address's Joseph Smiths Treasure Hunting days, his Seer stones and many other things that are not commonly talked about, but very valuable none the less. Also, however, adding insight to things commonly discussed, such as the first vision.
My faith is stronger having read this book.
